Job Summary
Lead the planning, performance, reporting, and follow-up of internal audits for Cameron County's Auditor's Office, including full audit cycles, risk assessments, and proposing recommendations to improve county operations. Develop audit objectives and scopes, conduct follow-up audits, and coordinate compliance testing of federal, state, and grant agreements. Supervise internal auditors on complex projects, review work papers and deadlines, and maintain independence to ensure the validity and integrity of audit findings. This role requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in accounting with senior-level auditing experience, a valid Texas driver's license, and a clean background check. The position reports directly to the County Auditor and handles confidential information critical to department operations and public image.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor or Master Degree of Accounting or closely related field
- senior high level auditing/accounting work related experience
- valid Texas Driver's License
- acceptable driving record
- ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work
- ability to lift, carry, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds)
- ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals
- ability to communicate orally
- constant handling of confidential information/documents relative to the county

- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
- Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP)
- 5 yrs. supervisory experience
