Job Summary
Conduct full-spectrum abdominal transplant surgery, including kidney and liver transplantation, deceased donor organ recovery, and living donor nephrectomy, while managing perioperative care for recipients. Participate in outpatient evaluation clinics, inpatient service, multidisciplinary selection conferences, and organ offer reviews. Collaborate with nephrology, hepatology, anesthesiology, and hospital leadership to establish clinical protocols, develop quality initiatives, and build the program's infrastructure. Manage shared call responsibilities for donor procurement, organ acceptance, and urgent surgical issues. Join weekly multidisciplinary meetings, morbidity and mortality conferences, and governance committees. Maintain clinical excellence and regulatory compliance within Hoag Health's growing transplant program.
Required Qualifications
- M.D. or D.O. degree from a fully accredited medical or osteopathic school of medicine
- Successful completion of an ACGME-accredited General Surgery residency
- Fellowship training in Abdominal Transplant Surgery from an ASTS-approved transplant fellowship program
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery
- Demonstrated expertise in kidney transplantation
- Demonstrated expertise in liver transplantation
- Demonstrated expertise in deceased donor organ procurement
- Demonstrated expertise in living donor nephrectomy
- Active, unobstructed California medical license, or the ability to obtain one
- Full prescriptive authority and an active DEA in California, or the ability to obtain one
- Ability to successfully complete Hoag Health's credentialing process
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in pancreas transplantation
- Experience with NRP, Organ Ox, Transmedics, and other modalities of machine perfusion
- Experience with pancreas and living donor liver transplantation
- Experience building multidisciplinary programs
- Fostering innovation
- Supporting quality improvement initiatives
- Mentoring future members of the transplant team
