Job Summary
Set up and operate conventional machine shop equipment, including lathes, millers, and boring mills, while programming and running basic CNC machines for moderate to complex set-ups with critical tolerances. Perform diversified machining operations to manufacture complex components and experimental prototype parts, developing fixtures as needed. Execute quality checks against engineering drawings, cross-check fellow machinists for issues, and advise engineering on design improvements. Maintain a safe, clean work area and exercise independent judgment to improvise fabrication methods using shop mathematics. Work on-site during the 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM shift, adhering to strict safety policies and quality standards.
Required Qualifications
- 8 - 10 years related experience in manufacturing and/or machine shop environment
- Ability to read and comprehend complex engineering drawings and blueprints
- Ability to set up and operate a full range of conventional machine shop equipment
- Advanced mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity
- Ability to read, comprehend, and follow written, verbal instructions, and sequence of events
- Ability to exercise independent judgment
- Basic CNC skills
- Ability to function as part of a team
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with and train others
- Ability to work under pressure and work well with others
- Advanced understanding of shop floor mathematics
- Advanced understanding of quality control principles
- Ability to work as a team player
- Ability to use full range of measurement tools
- Ability to work in a machine shop environment
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to wear steel toe safety shoes/boots and to wear safety eyewear required
- Must be able to wear a respirator
- Consistent, regular and punctual attendance
