Job Summary
Conduct long-term distribution work on the Duke system as a Journeyman lineman, performing rigorous physical labor including climbing, rigging, lifting, and rescue operations. Execute hot line work, sag wire, and install mechanical jumpers while identifying primary and secondary voltages and understanding induced voltage. Lead crew members in assembly and erection of structures, perform safe work planning, and conduct Job Task Safety Analysis meetings. Operate Bucket Trucks, Digger Derrick, and Backhoe equipment while adhering to flag and tag procedures. Valid Class A CDL is highly preferred; those without may need to obtain it within 90 days. After six months, eligible candidates may apply for the DOL Certified 4-Year Apprenticeship Program.

- Capability to lead crew in assembly and erection of structures in absence of Crew Foreman or with minimal supervision
- Understanding of dead ending and sagging operations for all conductors
- Capability to execute hot line work on conductor systems
- Proficiency at operation of Bucket Truck, Digger Derrick, Backhoe, other
- Proficiency in Pole/Tower Climbing
- Proficiency in all aspects of heavy lifting and rigging
- Familiarity with induced voltage
- Understanding of grounding procedures
- Capability to work at heights and/or confined spaces
- Capability to properly install and remove PPE and cover up
- Ability to climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.)
- Possession of the necessary tools to climb different types of structures
- Understanding of how to phase out a line using phasing sticks
- Understanding of proper use of phasing sticks
- Ability to identify and locate puller and tensioner setups
- Willingness to function within a Team environment
- Willingness to share knowledge with fellow crew members
- Capability to plan safe work based on a job print or work order
- Understanding of how to obtain a 'one shot' on a recloser
- Understanding of minimum approach distance
- Understanding of flag and tag procedures
- Capability to perform basic bucket rescue/escape
- Ability to effectively lead a Job Task Safety Analysis meeting or tailgate briefing
- Capability to safely install and remove mechanical jumpers
- Knowledge to properly inspect rubber goods, cover and PPE
- Willingness to travel long distances on short notice
- Willingness to work for extended periods in various locations
- Ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs
- Willingness to work outside, frequently in inclement weather
