Job Summary
9th-12th Social Studies Teacher responsible for implementing research-based instructional strategies, directing the learning process, and fostering a school and classroom culture conducive to student learning. Instruction is individualized to accommodate diverse learning styles, rates of learning, maturation, and achievement, with varying materials, instruction pace, and methodologies based on frequent assessments. Responsibilities include assessing student proficiency, planning long- and short-range programs using achievement data, maintaining positive interpersonal relationships with students and families, supporting district goals, participating in educational committees, developing culturally responsive instruction, using Rubicon Atlas for culture-based unit development, supervising instructional paraprofessionals, and adhering to district policies and professional teaching standards. The role requires maintaining lesson plans, digital record-keeping, and willingness to perform additional tasks as assigned; travel within the North Slope Borough School District area may be required; the position is an equal opportunity employer and a drug-free workplace.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education required
- Alaska Teacher Certificate required
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Three years of experience in education preferred
- Inupiaq, Language, History & Culture experience preferred
