911 TELECOMMUNUCATOR/ EMERGENCY CALL TAKER - FULL TIME

Job Summary
Receive, prioritize, and handle multiple simultaneous emergency and administrative phone calls for incidents like car accidents, medical emergencies, and hospital transfers. Process requests for ambulance service by referencing detailed databases, maps, and standard operating procedures. Identify problem nature through timely questioning, then summarize critical information for first responders in the computer-aided dispatch system. Access and operate computer databases, search websites, and transmit information via radio and telephone. Relay requests from law enforcement, fire, and medical personnel by accessing, entering, retrieving, and disseminating data to requesting agencies. Work eight- and twelve-hour shifts during nights, weekends, and holidays in a high-stress, controlled environment requiring quick decision-making with little margin for error. Maintain files and summarize individual characteristics into the database using correct grammar and spelling.
Required Qualifications
- Work experience preferably in a customer service or public relations environment
- The ability to speak and understand English for effective communication with callers

- Ability to interact with the public, a diverse workgroup, and emergency staff without confusion

- Ability to participate in effective teamwork by being self motivated, accepting of assignments and by completing assignments within agreed upon deadlines
- Ability to identify problems and collect, summarize and relay information
- Ability to summarize key individual characteristics and enter the information into the database

- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and assist other staff to appropriately handle stressful situations
