911 Dispatcher (Communications Deputy)

Job Summary
Answer emergency and non-emergency service phones, record essential information, and dispatch units from law enforcement, fire, or other emergency response agencies. Maintain logs, charts, and recordings for follow-up actions while operating and maintaining equipment such as computers, CAD systems, and telephone systems. Assist the general public and governmental agencies by deciding on appropriate courses of action and referring requests to relevant service agencies. The standard schedule includes nights, weekends, and holidays, with a monthly rotation of 12-hour shifts between Day and Night. Additional duties include attending staff meetings, in-service training, and performing routine office tasks like typing and filing. Limited travel within Natchitoches Parish is required.
Required Qualifications
- One (1) year of training in database management, records, clerical, customer service or a closely related field
- At least 21 years of age (upon the date of hire)
- High school diploma or equivalency
- No felony, drug, or domestic violence convictions
- Valid Louisiana driver's license
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing as required
- Basic computer skills such as typing, writing reports, and sending and/or receiving emails as applicable to the position
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required
- Ability to work in the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or human-made disaster that may threaten the area
- Ability to exert up to 25 of force regularly
- Normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, and speaking
