Job Summary
Plan and conduct effective practices and competitions while teaching sport-specific skills, strategies, and rules. Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and respect among student-athletes, ensuring their safety and supervision at all times. Enforce school and district policies, communicate with families and staff, and maintain equipment and facilities. Support academic expectations and eligibility requirements while attending required meetings and professional development. This role requires evening, weekend, and outdoor work and demands a valid Iowa Coaching Authorization, CPR certification, and NFHS concussion training.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Iowa Coaching Authorization or Coaching Endorsement through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BoEE)
- At least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent
- CPR certification
- NFHS concussion training
- Mandatory reporter training
- Completion of an approved 55-hour coaching course (or equivalent coursework)
- Knowledge of the sport and coaching techniques
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
- Ability to work positively with high school students
- Commitment to student safety and well-being
- Ability to demonstrate skills and actively supervise students
- Ability to lift and manage athletic equipment
- Evening, weekend, and outdoor work required
