Job Summary
Coordinate driver assignments for fixed bus routes, evening shifts, lift-bus operations, lunch relief, and tours while monitoring arrival and departure times from Clubhouse 1. Monitor two-way radio communications, notify mechanics of bus issues, and serve as a liaison between the public, department staff, and vendors. Maintain data for the bus system, update route schedules, and process paperwork including purchase requisitions and accident reports. Act as a back-up bus driver, assisting passengers with mobility devices, securing restraints, and reporting incidents to dispatch. Requires a valid California Commercial B License with passenger endorsement and regular on-site attendance.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from high school
- Two years' experience in transporting
- Two years' experience communicating with passengers
- Two years' experience communicating with co-workers
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job
- Knowledge of computer and applicable software programs
- Knowledge of the geography of the community
- Ability to read, understand, interpret and explain rules and regulations
- Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written directions
- Ability to relate to the needs and concerns of residents
- Ability to maintain effective working relationship with other employees, the public and to deal with public relations problems courteously and tactfully
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License
- Possession of a Commercial B License with passenger endorsement
- Medical Certificate Examination (DL 51)
- Enrollment in the DMV Pull Notice Program
- Enrollment in the Random Testing Program for Controlled Substances and Alcohol
- Ability to pass the Functional Capacity Test showing ability to safely handle and secure passengers using mobility devices
- Regular Attendance
- Ability to lift up to 10 lbs
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Ability to kneel
- Ability to squat
- Ability to push a wheelchair-bound passenger weighing up to approximately 300 pounds
- Ability to secure and release wheelchair restraints
- Moderate grip strength
- Normal hearing
- Ability to hear emergency vehicles
- Ability to hear passengers riding the bus
- Ability to hear the two-way radio over the engine and traffic noise
- Ability to use verbal and written communication skills
