Interpret design plans, sketches, and drafts to determine technical specifications and perform calculations. Prepare layouts according to building standards using measuring tools, then measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join wood, wood substitutes, light steel, and other materials. Construct foundations, install floor beams, subflooring, wall and roof systems, and mount decorative details such as doors, staircases, and hardware. Maintain, repair, and renovate wooden structures in factories, mines, hospitals, and industrial facilities. Supervise apprentices and other construction workers, and prepare cost estimates for clients. High school diploma required with a 3-4 year trade program or over 4 years of experience. Hourly rate $25-$30.
