421A Heavy Duty Mechanic

Job Summary
Perform preventive maintenance, inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. Utilize vehicle computer electronics to interpret failure modes, estimate repair costs, and requisition parts while adhering to Standard Repair Times. Execute service calls for emergency breakdowns, conduct safety checks, and maintain a clean workspace compliant with OSHA standards. Complete required paperwork in fleet maintenance software to document repairs, parts usage, and repair times. Review and complete repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports. Requires valid 421A certification, two years of heavy equipment maintenance experience, and proficiency in reading hydraulic schematics. Works under minimal supervision at GFL's Blind River and Espanola operations.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in automotive/truck, light or heavy equipment maintenance and repair
- Completion of accredited vocational technical school program
- Valid 421A certification registered in the Skilled Trades of Canada
- Valid driver's license
- Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located
Desired Qualifications
- May periodically assist in orienting and training lower apprentices
