Job Summary
Collaborate with a co-teacher and support staff to provide high-quality instruction while ensuring all IEP goals are met and documented quarterly. Use assessments and student data to differentiate curriculum, co-plan interdisciplinary units, and actively participate in professional learning communities. Loop with one class and co-teacher for two consecutive years, regularly communicating with families and integrating the real world into the inquiry-based curriculum. Build a safe classroom culture that honors student individuality and maintain confidentiality with student records.
Required Qualifications
- New York State Special Education Teacher Certification (Early Childhood Special Education, Childhood Special Education)
- Bachelor's Degree
- Educational philosophy aligns with the mission and vision of Compass
- Previous success in raising academic achievement of students with special needs
- Experience working with children with special needs in an Integrated Co-Teaching setting
- Ability to collaborate with support staff and related service provides to ensure that all mandated services are being provided in accordance to student IEP
- Reflective practitioner in a state of constant professional growth and a willingness to share their craft with others
- Commitment to integrating sustainability and the arts into core curricular subjects
- Knowledge of the school neighborhood
- Commitment to and knowledge of experiential and inquiry-based teaching and learning
- Commitment to diverse learning environments
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Experience collaborating with children, families, colleagues, and administrators
Desired Qualifications
- Masters Degree
- 3 or more years of relevant teaching experience
- Experience planning and teaching interdisciplinary units of study
