The Third Engineer acts as a designated Engineer Officer of the Watch on a General Cargo Ship, ensuring safe and efficient operation of all machinery during active or UMS duty. Responsibilities include hands-on maintenance of main propulsion engines, auxiliary engines, and boilers per company procedures, with reporting to the Second Engineer for operational tasks. In the absence of an Electrical Officer, the role also handles electrical maintenance and related PMS items.
