Job Summary
Plan, organize, and present instruction for 3rd–5th grade students, managing materials and equipment to ensure quick transitions and high student engagement. Establish clear behavioral expectations and rules for participation, movement, and verbal interaction, stopping inappropriate conduct while maintaining student dignity. Begin lessons with learning targets aligned to NC State Standards, review prior materials, and utilize checks for understanding throughout and at the end of each activity. Circulate during work time to monitor performance, provide prompt feedback on in-class and out-of-class assignments, and use diagnostic data to revise objectives. Treat all students equitably within a culturally responsive environment and interact effectively with parents, co-workers, and the community. Adhere to school policies and complete assigned non-instructional duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid NC licensure
- Graduate from a 4-year accredited college education program
- Alternative qualifications approved by the State Board of Education
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and drive a car
- Ability to lift boxes up to 10 pounds
- Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people, or things
- Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information
- Ability to read and write simple forms
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations
- Ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, and to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and legibly in Standard English
- Ability to utilize mathematical formulas, to add, subtract, divide, and multiply
- Ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape
- Ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately when using computers and other technology
- Ability to handle a variety of items, such as maintenance equipment and classroom supplies
- Ability to differentiate between colors or shades of color
- Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions
- Adaptability to performing under average levels of stress
