Job Summary
Bechtel 3D CAD Specialist role focuses on applying solids modeling to integrate customer models with BIM software to support engineering deliverables for the Sentinel program. Responsibilities include converting and coordinating BIM models between customer and project applications (NX, IFC, DWG), delivering regular model updates, coordinating design reviews with stakeholders, developing documentation for solids modeling processes, ensuring technical adequacy per procedures and standards, extracting model data for project use, and collaborating across engineering disciplines while interfacing with IT, vendors, and construction information. Requires a BS in a related field or an AA/AS with experience, strong solids modeling skills (NX/SolidWorks/Inventor), extensive BIM tool proficiency (Autodesk, Hexagon, Trimble), knowledge of BIM standards and regulatory frameworks (NQA-1, AFCEC/USACE), and excellent communication and writing abilities.
Required Qualifications
- BS degree in related Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering; Construction; or Information Management from an accredited university or college with at least 3 years of relevant experience, or AA/AS degree with 5 years of related experience
- Hands-on knowledge of solids modeling software (NX, Solidworks, Inventor, or similar)
- Ability to understand and translate coordinate systems (CSYS) between multiple applications
- Familiar with EPC or AEC project execution, and digital delivery implementation for DOE, DOD, or other government customers
- Familiar with BIM tools with emphasis on Autodesk tools (Revit, Civil3D, Inventor, AutoCAD, Navisworks, etc.), Hexagon tools (SmartPlant3D), and Trimble tools (Tekla Structures)
- Familiar with Navisworks (or similar) common “lightweight” model review environments
- Familiar with the United States National Building Information Modeling Standard, AFCEC and USACE BIM requirements
- Familiar with databases (Access, Oracle, SQL Server)
- Familiar with ISO-9000 quality assurance programs
- General IS&T knowledge
- Conversant knowledge of working in a regulated environment (e.g., ASME NQA-1) and data security
- Excellent listening, oral, and written communication, planning, and organizational skills
- Ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks
- Ability to interface with all Engineering disciplines, Contracts, Procurement, and Construction functions
- Basic understanding of Construction documents and commercial building systems
- Basic understanding of Construction Planning and Advanced Work Packaging
- Basic understanding of Quantity Estimating and Material Takeoffs

- Knowledge of construction documents, planning, and quantity takeoffs
- Knowledge of project delivery in EPC/AEC contexts
- Experience with contractor interfaces and as-built data management
