Job Summary
Operate controls for cutting machinery, conveyors, and pumps to clean and cut raw materials into relish, salad cubes, chips, and strips while pricking whole pickles. Regulate flow from hopper to cutters and manage pumps transferring materials between wet hoppers, processing lines, and tanks. Inspect and remove foreign objects from raw materials, check product for defects like ground rot or softness, and separate defective items for weight calculations. Record machinery downtime, worker counts, and bushels processed on daily sheets. Once operational, perform Cutting Inspector duties evaluating cut texture and size. Follow safety rules, wear required PPE including gloves and air masks, and visually inspect incoming products.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions
- Visual acuity to perform activities such as operating machines where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach
- Must be alert for metal and other trash which may damage cutter
- Ability to separate defective product, weights and calculates percentage if defects exist
- Ability to perform duties of Cutting Inspector for much of the shift
- Ability to follow safety rules and company policies
- Ability to receive written instructions from packing schedule or verbal instructions from supervisor
- Ability to perform other work as directed by supervisor
- Ability to reach: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction
- Ability to stand: Particularly for sustained periods of time
- Ability to push: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward
- Ability to finger: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Head cover and beard cover required
- Gloves and air mask required at times
