Job Summary
Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts using calipers, micrometers, gauge blocks, and dial indicators. Set up and operate conventional machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or shape parts to described dimensions. Select or recommend metals and alloys based on hardness and heat tolerance, then machine and assemble progressive and multi-slide dies. Study blueprints to plan sequences for fabricating tools and inspect finished dies for smoothness, finish, and defects. Conduct test runs with completed tooling to ensure production parts meet specifications and fit and assemble parts for die repairs. Adhere to ISO/IATF safety procedures and stop production if quality standards are not met.
Required Qualifications
- H.S. Diploma or equivalent
- at least 5 years of experience fabricating dies for automated or other related equipment
- Experience utilizing a press fit, slip fit and tolerance
- Ability to use lathes, milling machine, grinders, drill machine, gauge blocks, dial indicators, calipers, and micrometers
- Experience working with a broad range of materials including tool steel, Teflon, aluminum, etc.
- Ability to use lathes, milling machine, grinders, drill machine, gauge blocks, dial indicators, calipers, and micrometers
- understanding of the impacts of heat treat prior to grinding
- Ability to apply basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
