Job Summary
Monitor premises, perform security screenings at entry points, and patrol public areas including galleries and gardens to prevent harm. Conduct thorough safety inspections, manage access points via the GT Service Gate, and assist with loading dock duties during package reception. Respond to emergencies, de-escalate conflicts with guests or staff, and document incidents while adhering to museum policies. Review emails within 24 hours and adapt to operational changes during Festival seasons. Maintain a safe environment for visitors, staff, and artworks while operating in all weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Indiana Driver's License
- High school diploma/GED equivalent
- Ability to complete the required Security training for the position
- Proficiency in use of computer programs such as Microsoft Office (Word/Outlook/Excel)
- Ability to read and comprehend directions, instructions, and memorandums
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally
- Ability to adapt to prolonged standing and walking
- Applicant must have a base level understanding of email handling to send, receive and communicate through electronic mail
- Ability to comprehend and understand detailed written or oral instructions
- Ability to access the internet and communicate through virtual trainings
- Proficiency in using military time to fulfill job responsibilities
- Ability to adapt to prolonged standing and walking
- Ability to react appropriately in emergency and high stress situations
- Ability to document both injury-related and non-injury incidents
- Ability to review and respond to all emails within 24 hours
- Ability to perform security screening at campus and building entry points
- Ability to manage the entry of guests via metal detectors, and bag checks
- Ability to perform high activity bag checks during events for multiple hours per shift
- Ability to interact with individuals who are not guests (homeless, transient, disgruntled guests) in a non-aggressive manner to de-escalate potential threats
- Ability to notify supervisors and control room operators of any issues with vehicle and golf cart maintenance
- Ability to communicate promptly with a supervisor regarding any disputes or issues involving guests, employees, or others
- Ability to adapt to operational changes during Festival seasons (Harvest Nights and Winterlights)
- Ability to conduct lockdowns (detailed checks of buildings)
- Ability to perform comprehensive safety inspections throughout the campus
- Ability to stay informed on all museum policies and procedures
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
- Ability to respond effectively to emergencies
- Ability to demonstrate professionalism, vigilance, and the ability to handle high-stress situations calmly
- Ability to perform duties in all weather, from intense heat to cold, rain, or snow
- Ability to perform tasks requiring sharp vision and keen hearing, taste, and smell
- Ability to maintain a balance of alertness and the ability to remain calm and composed
- Ability to be punctual and adaptable to schedule changes
