Job Summary
The 2nd Shift Machinist II is responsible for the setup, adjustment, and operation of various machines including vertical turning lathes and horizontal milling machines. The role involves performing progressive machining operations on generator and turbine parts by using engineering drawings to fabricate parts. Candidates should have experience in machine shop practices, the ability to use precision measuring instruments, and perform basic maintenance on equipment. A trade or vocational background, alongside the capability to lift significant weights, is also required.
Required Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years of experience in machine shop practices and techniques
- Ability to use geometry, algebra, and trigonometric principles together with the use of engineering drawings, specifications, and tables
- Requires a working knowledge of shop practices and machining fundamentals as acquired through vocational training and/or experience
- Must have the ability to properly operate overhead crane and lift trucks
- Judgment is needed for the difficult setups, and selection of tooling and fixturing
- Ability to comprehend machining practices and techniques for fabricating generator and large turbine parts and components of various designs
