Job Summary
2nd Shift full-time Surgical Pathology Technician responsible for grossing surgical specimens of low to moderate complexity (e.g., GI biopsies, skin biopsies, breast cores) and moderate complexity (e.g., gallbladders, appendices) under supervision. Will train new Pathology Technicians, assist Pathology Assistants, and act as a resource for accessioning staff. Role includes adherence to CLIA and OSHA regulations, preparation for CAP inspections, and ensuring yearly competency. Requires strong communication and diplomacy skills to interact with clients, proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, and the ability to coordinate with the Lead Pathology Assistant. Positions include potential levels I–III/Lead with increasing responsibility and supervisory duties. Location: Tempe, AZ; shift is 2nd (afternoon) with a possibility of occasional Saturdays. Lead duties may include training and acting as a resource in the Absorption of accessioning duties when necessary.
Required Qualifications
- Associates degree in a laboratory science or Medical Laboratory Technology OR Education/training equivalent to the above that includes at least 60 semester hours from an accredited institution that must include 24 semester hours of Medical Laboratory Technology courses OR 24 semester hours of science courses (6 chemistry, 6 biology, and 12 chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination).
- 3 yrs or less of relevant work experience for Level I; II: 4-7 years; III/Lead: 8+ years or equivalent training plus ability to self-direct and complete essential functions
