Job Summary
Internship role: Class of FY28 Research Scientist, ELSI at Mercari Group (Internship). Analyze the social impact of advanced technologies (AI, robotics, Real World Asset, AR/VR, quantum computing), construct risk assessment frameworks for responsible deployment, collaborate with R4D and product teams to embed ethical considerations from early development, continuously update guidelines in response to technological progress and societal changes, manage projects with internal and external stakeholders, monitor domestic and international regulations (e.g., EU AI Act) and assess their impact on business, and present findings at conferences or publish papers. Requirements include a Master's degree or higher in humanities/social sciences (including expected degrees) with interdisciplinary research and experience leading multi-expert projects; language proficiency in Japanese (CEFR B2) and English (CEFR B2). Knowledge of translating humanities insights into organizational practices is also sought.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher (including expected degrees) in humanities and social sciences fields such as ethics, philosophy, or sociology
- Track record of conducting interdisciplinary research beyond your own area of expertise
- Experience participating in and driving projects involving multiple experts and practitioners
- Ability to analyze and verbalize the social impact of technology from multiple perspectives
- Ability to translate knowledge from the humanities and social sciences into practical knowledge and systems that can be utilized within the organization
