Job Summary

Teach Special Education Cross Categorical students in Tempe, AZ implementing IEPs aligned to Arizona State Standards. Responsibilities include direct instruction, conducting academic evaluations, developing and monitoring IEPs, conferencing with regular classroom teachers, maintaining accurate documentation for compliance, participating in MET processes, coordinating with related staff, providing behavioral support through FBA/PBIS, creating engaging classroom environments, and ongoing professional development. Requires Arizona Special Education Cross Categorical Teacher certification and a Master’s Degree in Special Education preferred; CPR/First Aid/NCI certifications current; proficiency with district software including MET and IEP systems. Salary approximately $51,500 per year; location Tempe, AZ.

Required Qualifications

  • Arizona Special Education Cross Categorical Teacher certification
  • Master Degree in special Education (preferred)
  • Knowledge of special education laws, procedures, practices, materials, equipment, and compliance standards
  • Ability to assess needs, develop and implement the IEP, and evaluate outcomes in specialty
  • Ability to coordinate activities with related and specialist staff
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, parents and the community
  • May be required to control certain behavior(s) through physical restraint
  • Maintain current NCI, First Aid, and CPR certification
  • Computer proficiency in district designated computer hardware and software including Microsoft Office, MET and IEP software programs and other relevant software
  • DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide direct instruction based on child’s IEP and the Arizona State Standards; Conduct appropriate academic evaluations; develop, implement and monitor appropriate academic/behavioral IEPs; Confer and consult with regular classroom teachers; Maintain accurate records for documentation of student progress and for compliance with district, federal, and state guidelines; Participate in the MET process; Plan, conduct and/or participate in training activities and department meetings; May participate in meetings beyond schedule; Follow state law and district policy with cases involving child abuse and neglect; Maintain communication with parents; Provide consultation and support to teachers in the development of FBA/PBIS; Create an effective environment for learning; Consult with staff regarding interventions and accommodations; Demonstrate flexibility and creativity; Maintain professional competence through development; Perform other duties as assigned.
