Job Summary

Accompany special education students to classrooms, labs, and mainstream settings while adapting instructional materials and assisting with feeding, hygiene, and wheelchair transfers per medical plans. Support teachers in preparing activities, supervising small groups, and maintaining a safe learning environment. Provide clerical assistance including filing, photocopying, and word processing, and translate between English and Spanish as needed. Supervise children during recess, lunch, and bus transitions to ensure safety and accountability. Report student development and behavior to staff and participate in in-service training. Maintain strict confidentiality under FERPA policies and foster positive relationships with all community members.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree
  • 48 specific college credit hours as listed by NM State Statute
  • Passing of the Paraprofessional Test
  • Educational Assistant PreK-12 Level 3 License
  • Current Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification
  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents, and other employees of the organization
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to adhere to District & Federal FERPA policies and strict confidentiality
  • Ability to perform services required for assisting students with special needs
  • Ability to assist with student health care needs and personal hygiene
  • Ability to prepare a variety of records and reports
  • Ability to assist teachers in classroom education activities
  • Ability to supervise students at recess and entering and exiting buses
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with others
  • Ability to operate a variety of modern office equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
  • Ability to perform routine clerical duties
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
