Job Summary

Drive small buses on assigned routes from 6:00am to 8:30am and 2:30pm to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday for nine months, transporting students safely in all weather conditions. Execute pre- and post-trip inspections, maintain vehicle fluids and cleanliness, and load/unload passengers including those in wheelchairs using the bus lift. Educate students on bus rules, enforce district regulations, and manage special health needs and behavioral situations. Communicate with parents and administrators regarding discipline, report unsafe conditions, and complete required paperwork including monthly reports and accident documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must complete District Driver Training
  • Passenger vehicle driving experience preferred
  • Experience working with children preferred
  • Criminal background check required for hire
  • Valid Colorado driver's license
  • CPR and First Aid certifications required within 90 days after hire
  • Successful completion of District's Small Bus/Vehicle Driver Training Program required for hire
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must pass the annual written test
  • Must pass the annual driving performance test
  • Must have a record of safe driving per motor vehicle record check
  • Must pass drug/alcohol screen per Board Policy
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) in English
  • Knowledge of city and county road networks and location of schools in the district
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations
  • Ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and abilities
  • Knowledge of Colorado and Federal laws as they relate to the transportation of students
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies and building/department procedures
  • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator
  • Operating knowledge of minibuses and pool vehicles required within one month after entering position
  • Operating knowledge of basic maintenance and emergency equipment including radio, tire chains, flare, etc. required within one month after entering position
