Job Summary
Special Education Paraprofessional at Norman North High School to assist with instruction and activities for individuals or groups under teacher supervision. Responsibilities include supervising students in instructional and non-instructional settings; preparing/adapting instructional materials; assisting with student assignments and classroom operations; serving as main contact for substitute teachers; supporting behavior management and addressing student needs; assisting with feeding and personal care as required (e.g., feeding tubes, toileting/catherization/diaper changes); helping with transportation and supervising after transportation; light classroom housekeeping; preparing snacks; operating office equipment; maintaining confidentiality; and completing required certifications and trainings. Requires completing Tier 1 prerequisites (or equivalent), pursuing Tier 2 certification within 120 days, and ensuring completion of CPR/First Aid and other trainings. Reports to Building Principal; Contract: 175 Days; Salary Schedule: Teacher's Assistant; FLSA: Non-Exempt.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Two years of college coursework (minimum 48 hours) or an associate's degree or completion of WorkKeys/ParaPro/OGET
- Oklahoma Special Education Paraprofessional Certificate or willingness to complete Tier 2 certification within 120 days
- Complete Oklahoma Special Education Paraprofessional Training and related certifications (CPR/First Aid, Universal Precautions/Bloodborne Pathogens)
- Background check (OSBI) every five years
Desired Qualifications
- College coursework preferred
- Previous work or volunteer experience with children/teenagers or clerical duties preferred
- Tier 1 Paraprofessional Requirements (certificate or willingness to obtain Tier 2 within 120 days)
- Oklahoma Special Education Paraprofessional Certificate or willingness to obtain within specified timelines
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Universal Precautions/Bloodborne Pathogens training
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Commitment to safety policies
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to supervise and support students in multiple settings
