Job Summary
Assist teachers in preparing instructional materials, scheduling specialized programs, and managing classroom equipment. Lead small group activities, support diverse learning needs, and enforce behavior management techniques. Maintain student records, proctor assessments, and compile data for teacher review. Provide student supervision, assist with personal hygiene and safety, and perform clerical duties. Treat students and parents with respect while collaborating with peers to foster a positive learning environment. Participate in required training and adjust service delivery to meet individual student needs.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or its equivalent
- Two years of study at a postsecondary institution; (60 s.h.)
- An Associate's degree or higher
- Pass a rigorous examination demonstrating knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics (The Praxis ParaPro Assessment)
- Demonstrate proficiency in business skills, including typing/key-boarding skills, office machines, general filing/organization
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience with children in an educational setting or related field
- Ability to relate to and work with students and adults in a positive manner
- Possess basic English and Mathematics skills
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Basic knowledge of technology and ability to apply knowledge to assigned area of responsibilities
- Ability to perform clerical tasks
- Planning and organizational skills
- Knowledge of operation of office and audio-visual equipment
- Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues
- Willing to attend training and in-service relevant to responsibilities of assigned area
- One on one ESE paraprofessionals may require medium to heavy work
