Job Summary
Special Education Paraprofessional role at Kennedy Elementary (Norman Public Schools). Responsibilities include assisting with instruction for individuals or groups, supervising students in instructional and non-instructional settings, preparing and adapting instructional materials, assisting with student assignments and classroom equipment, serving as main contact for substitute teachers, supporting behavior management, reporting special needs to teachers, assisting with feeding or personal care as needed, supervising transportation, and performing light housekeeping to maintain a safe classroom. Requires Tier 1 paraprofessional requirements (education/work-notes), Oklahoma certification pathway, and confidentiality. 175-day contract with non-exempt status; reports to Building Principal; salary schedule listed as Teacher's Assistant.
Required Qualifications
- Tier 1 Paraprofessional Requirements: Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education (minimum of 48 hours of college coursework); or Obtained an associate's degree (or higher); or Taken and passed the WorkKeys, ParaPro, or Oklahoma General Education Test (OGET).
- An Oklahoma Special Education Paraprofessional Certificate is required—or willingness to complete the Tier 2 Special Education Paraprofessional Requirements and obtain the Oklahoma Special Education Paraprofessional Certificate within 120 days of employment.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required. College coursework is preferred to assist meeting Tier 1 requirements.
- Must meet Tier 1 Paraprofessional Requirements.
- Previous work or volunteer experience with children, teenagers, or clerical duties preferred.
