Job Summary
Teach instrumental strings to students in grades 3–12 within Somerville Public Schools. Develop and implement engaging lessons to support musical growth, technical proficiency, and performance readiness; prepare students for school- and district-wide performances (Winter Concerts, Spring Concerts, Spring String Fling); distribute, inventory, and maintenance-support district-owned string instruments; instruct on proper instrument care and maintenance; identify repair needs and coordinate referrals; select developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive string repertoire; foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment; maintain accurate student records and instructional documentation; communicate regularly with families; collaborate with music staff and administrators to support music programming and equity initiatives; promote participation in enrichment opportunities (e.g., Berklee City Music, private lessons); maintain a professional online presence to support communication and resources; perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications include an appropriate educator license, DESE SEI endorsement, and a preference for bilingual educators. Pre-employment CORI clearance and fingerprints are required.
