Job Summary

Assist the teacher with planning, organizing, and evaluating instructional activities, preparing necessary materials, and presenting activities as directed. Ensure a safe and healthful environment while maintaining cleanliness and acting as a positive role model for students and employees. Support continuous quality improvement by demonstrating core values of caring, respect, and integrity. Provide physical assistance to students, including lifting, transferring, feeding, and personal hygiene needs, while tracking movements and reading IEPs. Maintain auditory awareness for classroom management and obtain a Commercial Driver's License when requested for bus duties.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 24 semester hours completed in any discipline
  • Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children
  • Ability to solve minor problems
  • Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions
  • One of the following: College transcript showing a degree was earned
  • College transcript showing at least 48 or more college level courses completed
  • College transcript showing at least 24 or more college level courses completed plus Work Keys Assessments with passing scores
  • Workplace Documents (Reading) score of 4 or better
  • Business Writing score of 3 or better
  • Applied Mathematics score of 4 or better
  • Background check with local and state law enforcement agencies
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) when requested
  • Ability to provide CPR when necessary
  • Ability to provide physical restraint when necessary
  • Ability to feed students with disabilities who cannot feed themselves
  • Ability to lift and transfer students to and from wheel chairs, the floor, mat tables, the toilet and the bus
  • Ability to provide and assist students with personal hygiene, including changing diapers, menstrual pads, etc.
  • Ability to have finger dexterity and be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, sitting, standing, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion
  • Ability to visually track and supervise movements of children
  • Ability to read IEP's and other printed material
  • Ability to have auditory acuity necessary to be aware of student verbal behavior and other auditory cues necessary for effective classroom management
