Job Summary
Assist with instruction and activities for individuals or groups as assigned by the teacher; supervise students in instructional and non-instructional settings; serve as main point of contact for substitute teachers; assist teachers with student behavior management and respond to student needs; alert the teacher to special needs; provide assistance with external feedings or personal care as needed (e.g., feeding tubes, toileting, diaper changes); supervise bus routes and transitions; perform light housekeeping to maintain a clean classroom; prepare snacks; operate classroom equipment; assist with obtaining classroom supplies and communications with families; maintain confidentiality; adapt instructional materials as directed; support students with assignments and classroom activities; other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Tier 1 Paraprofessional Requirements: Completed two years of college (minimum 48 hours), or an associate's degree or higher, or taken and passed WorkKeys, ParaPro, or OGET
- Oklahoma Special Education Paraprofessional Certificate – or willingness to complete Tier 2 requirements within 120 days of employment
- Tier 2 Paraprofessional Requirements: complete the Special Education paraprofessional training, CPR and First Aid certification, training in Universal Precautions/Bloodborne Pathogens, plus 6 hours annual professional development in Universal Precautions/Bloodborne Pathogens
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; college hours preferred
- Training/Experience: Must meet Tier 1 requirements; previous work/volunteer experience with children/teenagers or clerical duties preferred
