Job Summary
Direct elementary-aged children through daily enrichment lessons, homework support, and health activities while adapting programs for students with disabilities. Develop and implement behavior plans, create adaptation schedules, and model de-escalation techniques to afterschool staff. Supervise the classroom environment, maintain safety standards, and foster inclusive relationships with youth, parents, and caregivers. Work Monday through Friday from 1:45pm to 5:30pm, adhering to Virginia licensing standards and YMCA core values. Maintain open communication with the Adaptive Program Director and participate in ongoing professional development to support youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
Required Qualifications
- Meets educational and experience qualifications established by the Virginia Department of Education.
- At least 18 years of age.
- At least six months experience working in a supervised child program or setting.
- At least 6 months experience working with or volunteering with individuals with disabilities.
- Previous experience with individuals with disabilities.
- Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
- Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
- Participation in required in-service training (24 hours) annually.
- Completion of all required trainings prior to start date.
- First Aid & CPR and MAT certifications within the first 30 days.
- Must pass background check and receive negative TB result before beginning work.
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
Desired Qualifications
- At least one year of experience working with children in a developmental setting is preferred.
