Job Summary

Drive school buses over assigned routes, transporting passengers safely and timely in all weather conditions while abiding by CDE, DOT, and District regulations. Execute pre- and post-trip inspections, maintain fluids and cleanliness, and fuel vehicles per guidelines. Assist students in loading and unloading, including wheelchairs and strollers, and manage special health needs and discipline. Educate students on bus rules, enforce district regulations, and communicate with personnel and parents regarding behavior. Complete required paperwork, monthly reports, and route sheets; report accidents, hazards, and unsafe conditions. Verify route times and assist schedulers with map updates. Engage in ongoing training and emergency evacuation drills biannually.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must complete District Driver Training
  • Criminal background check
  • Valid Colorado driver's license
  • Commercial driver's license (CDL) with Class B and P2S endorsement
  • CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Successful completion of District's School Bus Driver Training Program
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must pass the annual written test
  • Must pass the annual driving performance test
  • Must pass DOT physical
  • Must have a record of safe driving per motor vehicle record check
  • Must pass drug/alcohol screen per Board Policy
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) in English
  • Knowledge of city and county road networks and location of schools in the district
  • Knowledge of Colorado and Federal laws as they relate to the transportation of students
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies and building/department procedures
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator
  • Operating knowledge of school buses and pool vehicles
  • Operating knowledge of basic maintenance and emergency equipment including radio, tire chains, flare, etc.
