Job Summary
Assist the bus driver in managing student conduct and ensuring passenger safety during daily routes. Monitor student behavior, redirect inappropriate actions, and help set a positive tone throughout the trip. Load and unload passengers, including those in wheelchairs or strollers, using the bus lift and maneuvering equipment on ramps and curbs. Coordinate with school staff regarding students with IEPs and 504 plans to address specific needs. Secure wheelchairs and fasten all protective safety devices, car seats, lap belts, and T-straps. Complete required paperwork, maintain the emergency card book, and provide documentation for code violations. Assist with emergency evacuation drills, handle mechanical failures, and perform first aid including CPR when necessary. Work 5 hours daily from 6:00am to 8:30am or 2:30pm to 5:00pm, starting August 17, 2026.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job
- Ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies, and building/department procedures
- Ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and abilities
- Operating knowledge with wheelchair lifts
- Operating knowledge protective safety devices, car seats, lap belts, and T-straps
- Ability to utilize non-violent and physical intervention techniques
- Knowledge of first aide skills
- CPR and First Aid training
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with children
- Experience with students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and 504's
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form using positive interpersonal skills
