Job Summary
Special Education Paraprofessional in Norman Public Schools. Provide instructional and supervision support under the teacher’s direction, assist with instructional materials and activities, supervise students in various settings, assist with classroom routines and behavior management, and help with duties such as feeding, personal care, and transportation support as needed. Requires Tier 1 Paraprofessional credentials (or higher), completion of required training to obtain Tier 2 certification within 120 days, an OSBI background check every five years, and High School diploma or GED (college coursework preferred). 175-day contract; reports to Building Principal; non-exempt status.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required. College coursework is preferred and may assist in meeting Tier 1 Paraprofessional Requirements.
- Must meet Tier 1 Paraprofessional Requirements (completed two years of college coursework or an associate's degree or passed WorkKeys/ParaPro/OGET).
- Oklahoma Special Education Paraprofessional Certificate required or willingness to complete Tier 2 certification within 120 days of employment.
- Complete Tier 2 certification requirements within 120 days (including training and CPR/First Aid, Universal Precautions/Bloodborne Pathogens).
- OSBI background check completed every five years (employee cost).
- Prepare for and obtain Tier 2 certification; complete mandatory training/PD.
- Reports to Building Principal.
- Essential job functions include assisting instruction, supervising students, preparing materials, assisting with behavior management, and performing related duties.
