Job Summary
Provide legal advice and representation to clients on poverty law issues at administrative tribunals or judicial reviews. Support the in-house advocacy team with legal opinions on cases and collaborate on complex matters. Screen and identify legal issues according to program guidelines and funding mandates while ensuring high-quality service delivery. Supervise program staff and participants, manage recruitment, and maintain organizational policies and standards. Coordinate services with The Law Foundation of BC and other stakeholders, and deliver public legal education when required. Engage in quality improvement processes and ongoing professional development regarding Indigenous histories and perspectives. Maintain a safe, welcoming environment by addressing discrimination and harassment while promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Required Qualifications
- Member of the BC Bar in good standing
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience
- Solid experience appearing before administrative tribunals including the Employments Standards Tribunal, Employment and Assistance Appeal Tribunal, Social Security Tribunal, Workers' Compensation Appeal Tribunal, British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal, and Residential Tenancy Branch
- Experience supporting and advocating for marginalized individuals
- Program administration, evaluation and development experience
- Knowledge of community resources and other social service agencies
- Knowledge of Legal Services policies and procedures
- Ability to run an organized caseload from beginning to end
- Ability to work effectively with clients who are experiencing a wide range of sensitive issues
- Training and/or experience using empathetic listening skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Computer literacy
- Must possess a vehicle and a current driver's license
Desired Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience, preferably in Administrative Law
