Job Summary

Conduct legal, policy, and general research; prepare legal memoranda on environmental and administrative law; respond to public inquiries about environmental issues; provide litigation support by drafting pleadings, submissions, and briefs; research and write Ecojustice Canada reports; assist with Freedom of Information and Access to Information Act requests; and interact with clients and non-governmental organizations. This 35-hour weekly summer placement offers a pathway to an articling term for 2027-28 based on satisfactory performance. Candidates must submit a cover letter, resume, transcripts, a 7-10 page writing sample, and three letters of recommendation by August 28, 2026.

Required Qualifications

  • Law student
  • Have a demonstrated interest in environmental law
  • Desire to work in the public interest area
  • Familiar with environmental and administrative law
  • Possess excellent research and writing skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience (lived, professional, volunteer) in building meaningful, collaborative partnerships with equity-deserving groups
  • Incorporating JEDI-R values in day-to-day practices and operations
  • A writing sample, preferably a legal research memo from law school or your previous experience, 7-10 pages maximum
