Job Summary
The role is a Summer Associate internship within JPMorgan's Machine Learning Center of Excellence (MLCOE). Responsibilities include researching and developing state-of-the-art ML methods for time-series predictions, market modeling, and decision optimization; applying ML techniques to real-world problems across NLP, large language models, speech recognition, and reinforcement learning; and collaborating with business, technology, product management, legal/compliance, strategy, and business-management teams to deploy solutions into production. Required qualifications include being in the final year of a Ph.D. program or Ph.D. in machine learning, statistics, or related quantitative fields, strong ML theory knowledge, ability to read and implement research literature, high-quality coding skills, ability to evaluate model performance against business goals, and excellent communication. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of financial mathematics, reinforcement learning, TensorFlow/RLLib/Ray, programming in Python/C++/Java, experience with distributed computing and cloud pipelines, CI/unit testing, and published research in AI/ML topics. The program begins in June with mentorship, speaker series, and potential full-time offers upon completion.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. or in the last year of a Ph.D. program in machine learning, statistics, mathematics, computer science, economics, finance, science, engineering, or other quantitative fields
- Knowledge of machine learning / data science theory, techniques, and tools
- Scientific thinking, ability to work with literature and the ability to implement complex projects
- Ability to understand business problem, study literature for a solution approach, write high quality code for the chosen method, design training and experimentation to validate the algorithms and implementation, and to evaluate intrinsic and extrinsic metrics for model performance aligned with business goals
- Solid written and spoken communication to effectively communicate technical concepts and results to both technical and business audiences
- Ability to work both independently and in highly collaborative team environments
- Excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills and demonstrated research ability
- Curious, hardworking, detail-oriented and motivated by complex analytical problems
