Job Summary
Conduct news reporting, photography, and videography coverage for the Des Moines Register and desmoinesregister.com. Research and gather information from various sources to produce written and multimedia content. Collaborate in brainstorming sessions with veteran editors and work with the politics team during Election Day and the days leading up to Nov. 3. Commit to a 20-hour weekly schedule with some flexibility in hours worked, including availability for evening and weekend shifts. Submit a resume, cover letter, portfolio links, and reference contacts during rolling application reviews through Aug. 31.
Required Qualifications
- Enrolled in or recently graduated from an Iowa college or university program (junior year or beyond preferred)
- Familiarity with newswriting style
- Critical thinking, adaptability, and attention to detail
- Valid driver's license
- Reliable transportation
- Minimum liability insurance required by state law
- Availability for some evening and weekend work
- Interest in news reporting, photography or videography
Desired Qualifications
- Some experience in journalism, in school or in a professional setting
