Job Summary
City Service Worker in Parks & Grounds responsible for semi-skilled grounds and landscaping maintenance for city/BLW properties, including mowing, raking leaves, tree trimming/removal, weed control, trash/brush removal, planting, repairs to parks facilities, painting, applying fertilizers/pesticides, and general upkeep of park areas. Operates equipment (including a 3-ton dump truck) to transport materials, assists with event setups, maintains tools and equipment, and may lead or guide probationers through the Community Service Program. Requires walking/standing for long periods, ability to lift heavy objects, work outdoors in all weather, and successful drug screen and background check; valid Georgia driver’s license required; forty-hour work week with schedule variations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years recent experience in outdoor property maintenance operating gas-powered machines (lawn mowers, chain saws, blowers, trimmers, and other small engine landscaping equipment)
- Skill operating a bobcat loader and attachments; front-end loader with backhoe; 3-ton dump truck and large commercial lawn maintenance equipment
- Valid Georgia driver’s license at time of hire including a satisfactory seven-year driver’s license to include no DUI’s in the last 5 years
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English, add and subtract whole numbers, carry out instructions and in good physical condition
- Ability to pass a physical examination at time of hire
- Knowledge of current landscaping methods, carpentry, painting, and other related maintenance methods
- Knowledge and skill with basic hand tools and equipment
- Knowledge of lawn and plant chemicals, fertilizers, and applications
- Must be in good physical condition with the ability to lift, pull or push moderate to heavy objects and walk or stand for extended periods of time
- Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions
