Job Summary
Assist the classroom teacher in implementing and maintaining a consistent program for students in the Homeschool Connections initiative at Mt. Stuart Elementary. Prepare and organize lessons, administer assessments, and provide instruction to individual or small groups while monitoring student progress and behavior. Maintain records, participate in instructional teams and meetings, and assist students with emotional support and general guidance. Ensure student health and safety by following approved procedures and assisting in emergency drills, assemblies, and field trips. Engage with students to support mathematics, grammar, spelling, language, and reading up to the 6th grade level. Work cooperatively with staff and parents while performing routine clerical duties and operating instructional equipment.
Required Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent
- AA (or higher) degree or completion of 2 years of secondary education (72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits)
- ETS Test with a score of at least 461
- Qualification to work in the proximity of children under the conditions of a WSP/FBI background check
- Successful completion of a skills assessment test in the subjects of mathematics, grammar, spelling, language and reading
- Knowledge of basic subjects taught in the District schools, including mathematics, grammar, spelling, language and reading
- Knowledge of safe practices in classroom activities
- Knowledge of basic record-keeping techniques
- Ability to engage with students to support mathematics, grammar, spelling, language and reading up to the 6th grade level
- Ability to learn child guidance principles and practices
- Ability to communicate and maintain effective relationships with students, parents and staff
- Ability to perform routine clerical duties in support of classroom activities
- Ability to print and write legibly
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
- Ability to learn procedures, functions and limitations of assigned duties
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to learn to apply and explain policies and procedures related to school and program activities
- Ability to work cooperatively with others
- Ability to monitor, observe and report student's behavior according to approved policies and procedures
- Ability to operate instructional and office equipment
