Job Summary
Develop lesson plans and provide individualized, small group instruction to adapt curriculum per student IEPs. Establish classroom behavior standards, evaluate academic and social growth, and maintain progress reports for district compliance. Communicate with parents during IEP conferences and collaborate with general education teachers to provide accommodations. Supervise pupils during out-of-classroom activities, participate in faculty committees, and complete all required special education paperwork timely. Maintain professional competence through district and self-selected in-service activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university
- Special Education teaching certificate; Mild/Moderate Certificate and/or Severe/Profound Certificate
- Ability to understand a wide range of disabilities, including but not limited to, Learning Disability, Intellectual Disability, Emotional Disturbance, Other Health Impairment, Hard of Hearing/Deaf and Visual Impairment
- Some knowledge and/or experience with Behavior Modification Strategies, I.D.E.A. and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support
- Compliance, confidentiality and communication
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
- Ability to compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule form, or blueprint form
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up or more than 10 pounds
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to or more than 50 pounds
