Job Summary
Paraeducator (Special Education) provides instructional and support assistance to students with disabilities, including one-on-one or small-group work, supervision, and helping with daily tasks. Duties may include health-related support (e.g., colostomy care, catheterization, tube feedings as authorized), implementing independent living skills, assisting with physical/occupational therapy plans, supervising safety and behavior, and communicating with students, families, and staff. Requires adherence to IDEA/Section 504 guidance, ability to follow written/verbal directions, maintain confidentiality, and support inclusive practices. Strong emphasis on collaborating with teachers to support student engagement, behavior plans, and progress reporting in a diverse school community. Two-year experience with children in learning environments and bilingual skills are desirable.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Associate’s Degree OR 72 quarter credits OR ETS Para Pro test
- May be required to be certified in first aid/CPR/defibrillators
- Experience working with culturally diverse populations or commitment to diverse communities
- Ability to manage students with challenging behavior and maintain confidentiality (FERPA)
- Ability to lift 25-50 pounds and assist with student mobility
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with staff, students, parents, and community
