Job Summary
Paraeducator (Special Education) responsible for instructional and support duties to assist teachers and students with special needs in various settings. Responsibilities include assisting with assessment, curriculum implementation, student interactions, enforcing safe behaviors, and promoting social growth; providing daily living skills instruction; facilitating health-related tasks under supervision (e.g., catheterization, tube feedings, insulin, oxygen, wound care); assisting with mobility and positioning through therapy plans; supervising students during recess, bus duty, and transitions; maintaining confidentiality and communicating with families and community members; supporting behavior management plans and documentation of student progress; coordinating with certificated staff to implement individualized education plans and safety protocols.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Associate’s Degree or 72 quarter credits OR ETS ParaPro test
- May be required to be certified in first aid/CPR/defibrillators
- Training in instructional methodologies for reading/writing/math and special education areas may be required
- Successful experience with diverse populations
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment
- Ability to manage emotions and interact professionally with students/parents/community
- Ability to follow directions and seek clarity
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
- Knowledge of classroom management and student discipline procedures
- Strong English language skills (verbal/written)
- Organizational skills and ability to prioritize
- Confidentiality and FERPA compliance
- Proficiency with office and computer equipment and student information systems
- Bilingual skills (preferred)
- Familiarity or willingness to be trained in inclusive strategies for students with disabilities
