Job Summary
Paraeducator (Special Education) position within North Thurston Public Schools to support instruction, supervision, and student education in collaboration with teachers. Responsibilities include assisting with assessment, curriculum implementation, supervise and support students in classroom and small groups, provide health-related student assistance when directed (e.g., colostomy care, tube feedings, insulin, oxygen, and nebulizers), teach independent living and social skills, implement physical/occupational therapy plans under certificated staff, supervise safety, transport students as needed, maintain confidentiality, communicate with families, and perform limited clerical duties. Requires following district policies, supporting diverse populations, and maintaining accurate progress documentation. Minimum qualifications include High School Diploma or equivalent with an Associate’s Degree or 72 college credits or ParaPro test; may require first aid/CPR certification and training in instructional methodologies and student safety practices. Work is 6.5 hours/day, 5 days/week, 189 days/year in a non-exempt, unionized environment with benefits eligibility for approximately 630 hours worked in the school year. Fluency in English required; bilingual skills and experience with inclusive strategies are desired. LOCATION: Lydia Hawk Elementary (assigned school) in Lacey, WA; UNION position.
