Job Summary
Design and implement the track and field program by assessing athletes for placement, developing practice regimes, and creating game strategies. Instruct student athletes on skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship while monitoring academic eligibility and intervening as needed. Supervise assistant coaches, volunteers, and student managers; conduct parent orientations, recognition events, and off-season clinics. Maintain records for compliance and respond to inquiries from parents, media, and college representatives. Ensure all personnel are cleared through Human Resources and adhere to the Athletic Code of Conduct. This temporary role reports to the Athletic Director and requires a high school diploma, Arizona Teaching or Coaching Certificate, and First Aid/CPR clearance.
Required Qualifications
- District approved volunteer status
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate
- Valid Arizona Coaching Certificate
- Completed Fundamentals of Coaching course
- Completed First Aid/CPR course
- Completed Sport Specific course
- Completed teaching sport skills course (if sport is not offered from NFHS)
- Criminal Background Clearance
- IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Non Exempt employment status
- Ability to administer first aid
- Ability to apply pertinent laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations
- Ability to coordinate activities with other schools, districts and/or agencies
- Ability to communicate with persons of varied educational and cultural backgrounds
- Ability to exhibit strong leadership
- Ability to model sportsmanship and enforce sportsmanlike behavior among students
- Ability to motivate participating student athletes
- Ability to provide a firm, fair, and consistent discipline approach
- Ability to provide leadership, direction, and team building
- Ability to travel to off campus athletic events

- Ability to ensure all coaches are cleared through the PVUSD Human Resources Department
- Ability to keep the school athletic director informed when issues arise
- Ability to respond to inquiries of students, parents, other school personnel, media representatives, college representatives, etc.
- Ability to assess student athletes for individual performance and team placement
- Ability to attend meetings, workshops, and conferences
- Ability to conduct supporting activities such as parent orientations and recognition events
- Ability to develop team and individual practice regimes
- Ability to develop game strategies and plans
