Job Summary
Design and implement the volleyball athletic program by developing practice regimes, game strategies, and team plans while assessing student athletes for performance feedback and placement. Supervise all program activities, including off-season clinics and community events, while mentoring assistant coaches and volunteers. Instruct student athletes in skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship, ensuring compliance with district codes and academic eligibility requirements. Manage records, equipment inventories, and facility usage to maintain efficient operations and report scores to local media. Respond to inquiries from parents, media, and college representatives while serving as a liaison between the school, district, and community organizations.
Required Qualifications
- District approved volunteer status
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate
- Valid Arizona Substitute Certificate
- NFHS Level 2 Certificate (National Federation of State High Schools)
- Criminal Background Clearance
- IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Job related experience
- Ability to administer first aid

- Ability to ensure that all coaches involved with their program, whether paid or volunteer are cleared through the PVUSD Human Resources Department
- Ability to keep their school athletic director informed when issues arise that impact the school's athletic program
- Ability to respond to inquiries of students, parents, other school personnel, media representatives, college representatives, etc.
- Ability to maintain a variety of records (e.g. game/student athlete statistics, insurance, signed permission forms, emergency information, schedules, equipment inventories, etc.)
- Ability to assess student athletes for the purpose of providing feedback to students on their individual performance and/or determining team placement
- Ability to attend a variety of meetings, workshops, conferences, etc. for the purpose of receiving and conveying information related to their role
- Ability to conduct a variety of supporting activities (e.g. parent orientations, recognition events, banquets, etc.)
- Ability to develop team and individual practice regimes for student athletes (e.g. strength, speed, agility, nutritional, injury prevention, etc.)
- Ability to develop game strategies/plans (e.g. analyzes opponent strengths and weaknesses, analyzing athlete abilities, creating plays/strategies, etc.)
- Ability to guide other coaching personnel as may be appropriate in instructional techniques, organization of practices, supervision guidelines and responsibilities, etc.
- Ability to identify program needs for the purpose of providing recommendations of expenditures for activities, equipment, supplies, etc.
- Ability to implement practice schedules and related events (e.g. usage of facilities and equipment, staff assignments, etc.)
- Ability to instruct student athletes for the purpose of promoting individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship
- Ability to monitor student athletes' academic eligibility for the purpose of both complying with AIA requirements as well as providing appropriate intervention (e.g. counseling, tutoring, etc.) to students identified as needing assistance to maintain their athletic eligibility
- Ability to oversee assistant coaches, student managers, volunteers, etc.
- Ability to promote athletic program through a variety of activities (e.g. conducts off-season clinics, information on skill-camps, attends community meetings, etc.)
- Ability to perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
