Job Summary
Plan and teach a dual language program of study in science and social studies for 6th grade, sheltering instruction across contents to promote bilingualism and biliteracy. Create a supportive learning environment, supervise out-of-classroom activities, and assess student progress through immediate feedback and regular reports. Diagnose learning needs, implement accommodations per ARD decisions, and maintain professional relationships with parents, colleagues, and administrators. Manage classroom discipline, participate in required meetings, and complete professional development for district and federal mandates. Maintain an acceptable attendance rate of 94% annually.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from accredited university or college
- Valid Texas Teacher Certification including bilingual or ESL certification
- Texas Reading Academy Certificate (Grades K-3)
- Effective oral and written communication skills in English
- Ability to build and maintain productive relationships among colleagues
- Knowledge of district's bilingual and ESL programs
- Strong Bilingual and Biliterate proficiency required for Spanish subject (Literacy & Grammar, Science, Social Studies)
- Maintain an acceptable attendance rate – 94% annually (excluding approved leaves and emergencies)
- Maintain competence through professional development activities to meet campus, district (Multilingual Programs summer PD and DL PLCs) and federal requirements
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed
- Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)
- Possible district wide travel
- Work with frequent interruptions
- Maintain emotional control under stress
