Job Summary
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Develop and implement individualized plans for specially designed instruction for students to develop competencies and skills to maximize opportunities, independent living, economic self-sufficiency and full participation in society. Plan and teach a program of study in accordance with TEA and district curricula, implement adaptations per IEP, manage student behavior, provide personal care services as outlined in IEP, collaborate with general education teachers, maintain documentation and progress reports, and utilize digital tools (Google Suite, Microsoft 365, ARD/IEP software, LMS) while adhering to district policies and safety procedures. The role is a probationary contract (187 days) with a base salary aligned to district schedule; professional development and compliance with district and state regulations are required. Skills emphasized include instructional planning, IEP/ARD coordination, LPAC considerations, classroom management, assessment, and effective communication with families and staff.
Required Qualifications
- Texas certification standards required for assignment as set by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC)
- ESL Certification preferred or ESL Certification required within two (2) years of employment beginning with teachers hired in 2010-11 school year
- Meet NCLB Highly Qualified criteria as required by assignment
- Knowledge of alternate curriculum as determined by the district
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior individualized services as determined by the students IEP
- Provide personal care services as outlined in the students’ IEP
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of specially designed instruction to address student needs related to their disability and medical conditions
- Proficient in use of digital tools including Google Suite, Microsoft 365 ARD/IEP Software and Learning Management Systems
- Implement Instruction and routines that promote personal care, transition services, self advocacy, toileting, and etc.
- Direct work experience with individuals with disabilities preferred
- Plan and teach a program of study in accordance with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), district mandates and curricula, and individual education plan
- Develop and implements lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the Texas Education Agency (TEA), district’s curriculum program, and IEP
- Assess the on-going accomplishments and needs of students; maintain appropriate records; provide immediate feedback and progress reports on a regular basis per building and district guidelines
