Job Summary
Lead SPED compliance across the district: ensure adherence to local, state, and federal policies for special education; manage the eSER platform to keep IEPs current and compliant; supervise case managers to meet timelines (annual IEP meetings, service logs, progress reporting); develop and deliver professional development for teachers and SPED staff; coordinate with Pupil Appraisal and related services; conduct classroom visits to verify IEP goals; create action plans for identified compliance issues; provide training and technical support on SPED regulations per State Performance Plan indicators; evaluate SPED personnel; oversee related-service providers; handle investigations involving due process, OCR, and MSDE complaints; compile and maintain required documentation; supervise Student Assistance Team committees and facilitate development of IEPs/IAPs; coordinate services with community agencies and contracted providers; monitor program effectiveness and ensure alignment with network guidelines and legal requirements; establish and maintain communication with senior administration, parents, students, and staff; lead professional development aligned with SPED best practices and educational leadership; manage referrals, universal screenings, evaluations, and accommodations/modifications; ensure timely reporting for state and federal monitoring; oversee contract providers and transition planning; support continuous improvement in SPED programming.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in education, school psychology or related area
- 5+ years as a Special Education teacher or related experience
- Certification or ability to gain certification as an Educational Diagnostician, Parish/City Supervisor of Special Education or School Psychology
- Experience leading and managing adults
