Job Summary

Engage students in instructional activities under teacher direction, assist with mastering materials, and reinforce learning for individual students or small groups. Administer and score diagnostic tests, collect IEP data, and maintain accurate documentation of all activities. Perform personal hygiene functions, medically related services, and physical/behavioral management procedures as assigned per student needs. Provide explicit instruction using lesson plans, support classroom discipline, and supervise students during transitions and special classes. Catalog instructional materials, manage equipment, and assist with community-based instruction. Maintain confidentiality, follow safety protocols, and participate in assigned training. Schedule includes 187 calendar days with pay determined by completed service years.

Required Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent (GED)
  • Eligible for appropriate paraprofessional certification
  • Demonstrate interest in and aptitude for work to be performed
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task activities
  • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of teachers
  • Demonstrate and maintain competence in delivering PCS in accordance with IEP requirements
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation of all SHARS billable PCS activities
  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds)
  • Occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-50 pounds)
  • Perform the following medically related services when assigned per students' needs, following training by a nurse: cleaning catheter; tube-feeding; suctioning; lifting/transferring (minimum of 50 pounds); monitoring seizure activity; and performing cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Perform the following physical/behavioral management procedures when assigned per students' needs: administering therapeutic holds; administering physical restraints; monitoring scheduled reinforcement; monitoring students who are in isolation; escorting for students with visual impairments (Orientation & Mobility); and transferring students in wheelchairs and/or other mobility devices
  • Perform the following personal hygiene functions when assigned per students' needs: bathing/cleaning; clothes changing; diapering; feeding; maintaining facial hair; maintaining menstrual hygiene; maintaining nasal hygiene; and toileting and/or toilet training
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
  • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed
